My name is Catherine Emmons and I live in Toronto in a tiny, but cozy home with my wonderful supportive wife, our vivacious 5 year old daughter and 3 fur babies. Professionally I’m a piano teacher, teaching anyone who has a passion to learn. In my spare time between teaching, being a parent and renovating our home I’m running the streets and trails throughout the city.
I started my running journey in my late 30’s
shortly after I met my wife. I was a road cyclist before that, riding across
Canada in the National Kids Cancer Ride in 2009 raising money for kids with
cancer. I started running thinking it was something Trish and I could do
together since she was already a runner and had little interest in the road
bike. Running did not come naturally to me at all, but with consistent training
and hard work, I ran my first 10 km race in 2014 and my first half marathon in
May 2017. I gradually increased my distance to complete the Around the Bay Road
Race, a 30 km distance in March 2018 and finally ran my first marathon in
October 2018 at age 45.
While I love cycling, running was something I could
share with my daughter and I spent many hours pushing her in the running
stroller throughout the city. My daughter has since caught the running bug and
has now run her own 1 km races.
I started this blog to share my experiences as a
runner and parent and to connect with other like-minded people. I enjoy writing
about my experiences and hope to help motivate others to begin their own
fitness journeys.
Follow along as I share my running experiences,
family adventures, while having fun along the way.
